Sioux City branch officially opens

Road Machinery & Supplies Co. held a ribbon cutting to officially open its new Sioux City branch facility at 5700 Al Haynes Dr, on Tuesday, Feb. 18.

Located in Sioux City Expedition Business Park on the southern end of Sioux City, conveniently near the Sioux City Gateway Airport and Interstate 29, the 12,000-square foot branch features two large drive through bays, a wash bay, parts warehouse, conference room, break area, and offices for staff.

In addition to size, the facility greatly enhances on the service and repair capabilities that were possible in the original Sioux City branch, which was built in 1946, with high ceilings, larger workspaces, cranes, and technology advancements.

At the ceremony, RMS CEO Mike Sill II noted that the investment in the new facility speaks to the growth of the company and its investment in western Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas. He thanked the many people that helped make the branch project a success including The City of Sioux City, AB Systems, RP Constructors and the many employees, customers and manufacturers who helps support the project.

Sioux City Mayor Pro-Tem Dan Moore also spoke at the event and thanked RMS for investing in the area and continuing to be a solutions provider for the area businesses.

Sioux City is the fourth new-build project RMS has completed since 2020. Bondurant and Cedar Rapids opened new facilities in 2020 and the Byron branch, located just outside of Rochester, Minn., opened in 2024. The Sioux City opening also completes RMS’ goal of updating all of its southern locations as it moved its Quad Cities location from Milan, Ill., to a renovated facility in East Moline, Ill,. in 2017.

Ben Schmidtlein promoted to Vice President of Aggregate

    Ben Schmidtlein has been named Vice President of Aggregate for Road Machinery & Supplies Co. Schmidtlein joined the company in early 2020 and has been instrumental in guiding nearly four years of steady, substantial growth in aggregate sales and support for Road Machinery & Supplies Co.   Under Ben’s direction, RMS has built a dedicated Aggregate Division with a focused sales and support team. In 2022, RMS purchased Pit & Quarry Supplies Co., which provides competitive aftermarket parts options for customers and added a dedicated warehouse in Savage for aggregate products. RMS Delivers PC7000 Komatsu Excavator

RMS recently delivered a Komatsu PC7000-6 hydraulic excavator to one of our taconite mining customers in Northern Minnesota. The machine weighs 1,530,300 Ibs, features a 46-cubic yard bucket and is powered by Cummins 1,675 HP twin engines. The machine was delivered in 34 semi-truck loads (3 of these being super loads).
