The 2025 North American Biochar Conference, hosted by the U.S. Biochar Initiative (USBI), took place September 15-18 at the Minneapolis Convention Center. The event brought together innovators, industry leaders, researchers, policymakers, and entrepreneurs for deep dives, technical sessions, industry-wide keynotes, panel discussions, and hands-on networking.

Ruffridge Johnson in the Spotlight
Thursday’s field trip to the Washington County facility highlighted Ruffridge Johnson's (RJ) leadership in the biochar space. The site will soon operate a Phoenix 8000 machine to produce biochar, with RJ providing direct support and expertise. Their hands-on involvement, from technical knowledge to regional proximity, positions them as a key driver in expanding Minnesota’s environmental business. This effort not only strengthens the launch of the Washington County site but also reinforces RJ’s commitment to advancing sustainable technologies and accelerating the adoption of biochar solutions.

Dan Olson joins RMS as Aggregate Division Manager

  Dan Olson has joined RMS as Aggregate Division Manager, the position previously held by current Vice President of Sales Ben Schmidtlein.   Dan brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to this role, having spent his entire career in the construction equipment industry. Most recently, he served as Director of Sales & Marketing at Hayden Murphy Equipment, and prior to that as General Manager for RTL Equipment where he successfully led all aspects of the business with a strong emphasis on sales and marketing. Previously, Dan was Vice President at THECO where his leadership in process improvement drove exceptional growth. In order to better manage its growth, RMS recently announced several changes to its management team, highlighted by the additions of President Russell Sheaffer and Chief Financial Officer Troy Johnson. "We are very excited to welcome Russell and Troy into our family," said Mike Sill. "Both bring a wealth of experience with them, and I am confident that they will help us continue to grow and serve our customers."
